Do you have a pile of spare bits of wood? Here is a great way to make functional light pulls from those bits and pieces. The light pull drive is a friction drive withs steps of 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2". Turning a light pull with this drive is simple. Drill a 1/8" hole through the blank and then counter bore with a 1/4" drill to about 3/8" deep. Slip the blank onto the drive, turn the tailstock revolving center up till the blank is suspended. Your ready to turn your first masterpiece. The drive is designed to allow plenty of room to work around the light pull, including finishing.
